Leslie Tourish, Licensed Profesional Counselor

How I work:  I’m a psychotherapist who works with people who are striving for a personal sense of well-being and balance. In order to have a genuine connection to a therapist, trust is vital for therapy to work. I have experience in helping people with life transitions, relationship issues, grief and loss, depression, anger, anxiety and trauma.

Background: My background is diverse, with many rich experiences. I received a Bachelors of Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin and worked for 13 years as a photojournalist in daily newspapers. However, I desired to get out from behind the camera and have a deeper connection with people, so I set the goal to become a psychotherapist.

Relocating back to Austin, I completed my Master of Arts in Human Services from St. Edward’s University, graduating in 1996. I have worked in a variety of settings, including a MHMR clinic, a pre-release prison focusing on chemical dependency issues, a psychiatric hospital and an adoption agency. Since 2002, I have been in private practice in Austin working with older adolescents, adults and couples.

Issues I work with:  I work with people who are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, feelings of helplessness or hopelessness, and shame. Often I work with people who are in transition and are exploring new, creative ways to approach old problems. I have specialized training in helping people heal from traumas of their past, concerns in the present, or fears and worries about their future.
